The second project that Hilldale needed a Tulsa Commercial Contractor was for the Hilldale All Sports Fieldhouse and Softball Baseball Locker Room addition. Which was 2 separate projects in a sense. The same could be true for the third project as well, Hilldale Elementary Gymnasium and classroom addition. That project was four separate parts instead of two. The other projects that done for Hilldale

were Hilldale Drainage project done by Magnum, a Tulsa Commercial Contractor, and Stout who I also believe is a Tulsa Commercial Contractor. The first part of the Hilldale Fieldhouse Addition Softball- Baseball Locker Room addition wasn’t the fieldhouse because it was for football, but the softball-baseball locker room addition because they wanted the expanded building to be ready for spring training

The existing building is pre-engineered metal building and at first we were going to just add varsity locker rooms for both softball and baseball their exist backing cages and remodel the coaches office, but the school accepted an alternative to allow there to be a second set of locker rooms for the junior varsity softball and baseball teams as well as a large storage area.

The varsity locker rooms will be a pre-engineered metal building with block walls ten feet high and down the central corridor would have fire rated drywall above the ceiling. The construction of the building went really quickly, with respect to other building projects, but there were items inside the building that slowed us down dramatically.

The aluminum frames arrived but there was no glass for them. The door hardware for the project got confusing with the alternate and the other Hilldale project starting at close to the same time. The resolution to the door hardware for the softball-baseball building meant we got the door hardware for All Sports Fieldhouse in plenty of time to be set when the mason started. The Tulsa Commercial Contractor chosen for this project had the superintendent change near the end when some of the more detailed issues came up. For instance, the flooring is sealed concrete.

Where Can You Find Our Tulsa Commercial Contractor?

To get the look that the architect wanted the floor had to be ground down. There are rocks in concrete and the architect wanted course rock to show, but it is impossible to pour concrete so that the rock is uniform with in the concrete, so when the floor grinder is grinding to get it uniform across the surface in terms of being level and in terms of the amount of rock showing. The concrete once at its desired level of grinding the concrete is sealed to eliminate the ability of moisture to penetrate the concrete and break up the concrete.

The concrete is then polished to a high shine. We had to remove our stuff from the existing building so the school could bring in turf. This meant we had to move the material in the work areas which meant we had to move lockers in the hallway, and we had to work around the lockers until they were set.

The All Sports Fieldhouse part of the Hilldale All Sports Fieldhouse and Softball-Baseball Locker Room addition was started after the demolition of the existing ticket booth. This building was to be a block building with a brick veneer. The masons began as soon as the could and the plumber and electrician have to stay with him to put the piping and raceways in the masonry wall. When installing in wall receptacles, switches, or fixtures the trades within wall items have to work with mason installing water, electrical, and low voltage items, because there are structural bond beams within masonry walls.

The bond beam includes a “u” shaped block set in a specific pattern, such as every 3 rd or 4 th course. The “u” shaped will have rebar in it and pour full of grout. This keeps your masonry wall solid and capable of supporting the roof. There are vertical bond beams set out in a similar way as well as rebar that starts in the slab. The rebar of the slab and the bond beams will be of a specific diameter and have requirements for overlap. The top course of block will have to contain fabricated steel to create a way for the roof to attach to the building.

Typically there are embed plates that go in the top course. The embed plate will have studs that go in the grout of the block. Steel joists are placed on these embed plates and welded in place. Then steel decking is welded on the steel joists. The number of embed plates and steel joists is dependent on the type of roof. If the roof is going to be a concrete roof the structural steel joists will have to be more numerous and will require more bridging than a metal or TPO roof because of the weight.

There are other methods of pouring a concrete roof besides joists and decking. The term bridging is when the steel joists are connected to one another to keep them twisting and warping. A joist keeps its strength best when it is straight. Once in place the steel will remain strong enough to hold up concrete. This decisions of the type and number of joists and the thickness of the decking to all the bond beams are determined by structural engineers. The veneer masonry comes in different colors, types, and shape. As the name implies it is different from structural masonry because it covers the structural masonry and only bares its own weight. Veneer masonry will not be weight baring by definition.

The All Sports Fieldhouse got a metal roof and was place by the same contractor that built the softball-baseball locker room addition. Contractors employ subcontractors to varying degrees. The Tulsa Commercial Contractor chosen for this project handles most of the what is called the division 1 items, so the Tulsa Commercial Contractor chosen for this job subcontracted out virtually all the items except for the division 1 items. The division 1 items include contracts, payment applications, submittals, and closeout items as well as other items I am forgetting. Construction of this project has been completed at this time, but the project has not been “closed”.
